What switching actually involves
These are different products for different problems, so the useful question is which problem you have. A board whose year is shaped by violation notices and architectural requests should stay with a platform built for that. A board whose year is shaped by opening day, swim meets and the summer social is buying a lot of machinery it will never start. If you are somewhere in between, communities do run both — governance and accounting in one, member experience in the other.
Common questions
Does Gather Commons handle violations or architectural review?
No. DoorLoop has dedicated workflows for both and we have neither. If those are a significant part of your board's work, that difference matters more than anything else on this page. We focus on events, amenity reservations, the directory, documents, dues and your public site.
What about full accounting?
Also no. We collect dues, membership fees and event payments through your community's own Stripe or Square account, but we are not a general ledger and do not produce financial statements. Communities that need formal accounting keep a tool built for it — plenty run that alongside Gather Commons.
How does pricing compare for a larger community?
Our plans are flat per community rather than scaling with household count, so the price is the same at 80 households as at 400. DoorLoop's own site describes plans that scale by unit count. Check their current pricing directly — the comparison depends entirely on your size, and it moves.
Can we use Gather Commons alongside DoorLoop?
Yes, and plenty of communities do. Gather Commons handles the community side — events, reservations, the directory, announcements, and a public site — while you keep whatever you already use for bookkeeping or property operations. Nothing about our setup requires you to rip out an existing system.
How long does it take to get set up?
